And Now For Something Entirely Different…

In order to introduce myself more clearly, I will use musical references.

School Life: Attending my last semester of high school as a senior at Kirkwood High School I find myself grappling for any notion of what life will be like outside of Kirkwood’s bubble. I would consider my schooling best compared to The Beatles. The most quintessential of classic rock, this group made music only a few short years but made a lasting impact on all of humanity. High school is a classic environment most everyone experiences, but effects each student in a profound (or not so profound) way.

Social Life
: Drinking under the age of 21 is quite illegal. Unfortunately, that fact has never stopped anyone who really wanted to get good and hammered. I will compare my social life to the jaded, teenage rock of Nirvana. I am a drifter between several “groups” within and without my high school leaving me hard up for a friend at times, but I struggle on and find myself to be a pretty strong loner. This brings to mind the heart sore “I’m so lonely but that’s okay, I shaved my head and I’m not sad,” lyrics the ill fated Kurt Cobain once sang.

Future Plans/Dreams
: Most people’s dreams tend to be on the brighter side. I mean I’m just guessing here, but who hopes to break their leg, you know? So, what more fitting sound than the wonderfully talented, uplifting Tom Petty? Petty’s sound is so unique it catches you off guard, but it seems familiar and comforting at the same time. His song Wildflowers shows his simple outlook on life, “You belong among the wildflowers, you belong in a boat out at sea. Sail away, kill off the hours, you belong somewhere you feel free.” It is his classic sound combined with his powerfully simple lyrics that appeal to me, making me feel as if my whole future is wide open, a blank page for me to write on. My plans of one day becoming an English teacher and published author seem very reasonable when listening to Petty.

Family Life
: I am a stuck in the middle girl, right between an older brother and a younger sister. My family life has always been fairly normal, a suburban household with two dogs and three blond kids. Keller Williams’ acoustic folk rock sound is the perfect soundtrack to my plain family life. But his goofiness (IE the song Bob Rules, Love Handles or Moving Sidewalk) shows there is no such thing as a normal family.

There is so much more to say, but at the risk of boring you, I’ll call it quits while I am ahead. I hope these small summaries have given you some insight into my musical tastes and maybe even my life.
